Each classroom has a 'class wall' with photos of each child in the class, a 'birthday wall', a 'theme wall' and an 'art wall'. Our classrooms are equipped with a fully stocked fantasy corner, stationery cupboard, puzzle shelf, book corner and perceptual equipment and games.
All our teachers and assistants are qualified educators and we offer the CAPS curriculum. Teachers and assistants are certified Level 1 First Aid and CPR graduates and classes are furnished with a mini first aid kit. We invest in annual teacher evaluation and training to keep abreast of current teaching methodology and trends..
Our essential ethos is based on teaching our children ‘The Bear Necessities of Life.’ These ‘Necessities’ being independence and self confidence, and the two go hand in hand. We believe that the more a child does for himself/herself and achieves success, the more confidence he/she will have, and so, the more he/she will want to do for himself/herself.
As part of our ‘Bear Necessities of Life’, we work to foster a strong sense of respect in our children. Respect for all adults, peers (regardless of age, gender, race, etc) and respect for their property and the property of others. ‘Manners Maketh the Man’, and for this reason we encourage our children to greet when arriving and leaving school as well as always saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’
Lastly we believe that the ability to solve problems and utilise logical thinking and reasoning is a vital life skill that builds independence and self-confidence. Allowing children the space and independence to ‘think for themselves’, is hugely beneficial in later years.
